Semal Conservation Mission

Semal; scientifically known as Bombax ceiba, is a multipurpose tree of ethnomedicinal and spiritual importance. The main cause of its destruction in and around Udaipur district of Rajasthan state (India), is dogmatic traditional cutting and burning during Holi festival without its re-plantation. SMRIM has initiated semal conservation through creating awareness in masses and re-plantation in and around Udaipur. The activities of Semal Conservation Mission by SMRIM have been appreciated by local newspapers and environmentalists.

The unique feature of this mission is propagation of semal plants through seeds and cuttings and their re-plantation at a large scale in the area.
